Gastric sleeve surgery is one of the most common and effective bariatric procedures for long-term weight loss. During the procedure, a portion of the stomach is removed to create a smaller, sleeve-shaped stomach, helping patients feel full sooner and eat less while supporting significant, lasting weight loss.

Revision bariatric surgery is designed for patients who previously had weight loss surgery but are experiencing complications, inadequate weight loss, or weight regain. Dr. Taylor evaluates your previous procedure and health history to determine the safest surgical option to help you get back on track toward lasting weight loss.

Gastric bypass surgery is a well-established bariatric procedure that helps patients achieve significant, long-term weight loss. The surgery creates a smaller stomach pouch and reroutes part of the digestive system, helping patients eat less while also reducing calorie absorption.

Gastric bypass revision surgery may be recommended for patients who previously had gastric bypass but are experiencing complications or weight regain. This procedure adjusts or corrects the original surgery to restore its effectiveness and help patients get back on track toward lasting weight loss.

Lap band revision surgery is designed for patients who previously had a gastric band but are experiencing complications, discomfort, or inadequate weight loss. This procedure removes or converts the band to another bariatric procedure, helping patients achieve safer and more effective long-term weight loss.

For patients who may not be candidates for bariatric surgery, we also offer physician-guided medical weight loss. This program provides structured support, including medical supervision, nutrition guidance, and lifestyle counseling to help patients achieve meaningful weight loss safely.

Hi, I’m Dr. Jamokay P. Taylor.
When patients come to see me, they’re often feeling frustrated, discouraged, and unsure about their next step. Many have tried diet programs, medications, and other approaches for years without lasting success. My goal is to help them understand their options and guide them safely toward a healthier future.
I am a board-certified bariatric surgeon and Center of Excellence provider with more than 20 years of surgical experience. Today, I dedicate 100% of my practice to bariatric surgery and the care of bariatric patients. Over the course of my career, I have performed thousands of weight loss procedures, helping patients regain their health, confidence, and quality of life.
My interest in bariatric surgery began during my surgical residency at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center, where I served as Chief Resident. During that time, I saw firsthand how powerful bariatric surgery could be—not just for weight loss, but for improving serious health conditions like diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. Seeing those life-changing results inspired me to dedicate my career to this field.
Today I serve as the Medical Director of Taylor Bariatric Institute, a comprehensive bariatric surgery center focused entirely on helping patients achieve safe, lasting weight loss. Our program works in partnership with Barix Clinics, a nationally recognized Bariatric Center of Excellence that has performed tens of thousands of bariatric procedures.

What makes our program unique is that patients are never alone in their journey. In addition to surgical care, our team includes dietitians, nurses, psychologists, patient advocates, and medical specialists who support patients before and after surgery. Long-term success requires more than a procedure—it requires education, support, and ongoing care.
I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. I remain actively involved in several professional organizations dedicated to advancing bariatric care.
For me, the most rewarding part of my work is seeing patients regain control of their health and their lives. Whether someone is considering bariatric surgery for the first time or exploring revision surgery, my goal is always the same: to provide safe, expert care and help patients achieve lasting weight loss and better health.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you take the next step in your weight loss journey.
